This poster calls to attention a critical issue on air quality in California. Hence, the goal was to create a piece that was both informative and eye-catching. This project hopes to convey the overall outlook of air quality across the State of California and to raise people’s awareness on protecting our clean air.
II. RESEARCH
The research process began with gathering news and data on related issues. Then taking the raw data through Excel to be organized and to set up the graphs. I mainly focused on pollutants CO and NO2, and used the data graphed on a map and a pie chart.
III. IDEATION
The idea was to organize the pie charts, each representing a county, accordingly to their positions on the map. However, it was difficult to arrange all of the pie charts within the limited size of the output format (24in x 26in) and still remain legible.
V. FINAL DESIGN
Each pie chart is a county in the state of California and it represents 365 days in a year of 2017. The colors tell the viewer how many days of air quality, from good (green) to extremely unhealthy (red).
