DO-ĐỦ: Play on Papaya

DO-ĐỦ: Play on Papaya

3D Illustration

In switching between Vietnamese and English in my daily life, I see beauty and so much culture in each of them; especially with my mother tongue. The illustration is my attempt to dive into and showcase this linguistic relation from a designer's perspective.

In Vietnamese, papaya is translated into "đu đủ" /doodoo/which has a phonetic transcription very close to the english verb "do" /doo/.  In writing "do đủ" the word takes on a new meaning which now translates to "doing enough", although it phonetically still sounds like "papaya" in Vietnamese.

This illustration brings another layer to the translation process. Through my own  experiences with American and Vietnamese culture, there is a delicate balance that each has on my life. The visualization of these feelings turned into this relational balance between the papaya fruit and its meat cut and prepared to be eaten. Although presented in different forms, they can balance out. This is my interpretation to the importance of the duality of life and practicing to see beyond the veils of our perceptions.
